Global Services Giant Looks to Intel vPro Technology

According to Gartner research, the top challenges for IT in 2006 are improving business processes and better managing IT operating costs across the enterprise. Gartner also conservatively estimates that 91% of organizations' IT expenses are related to maintenance and operations, leaving just 9% for innovation. Clearly, effective, efficient, proactive management of IT assets and infrastructure is critical. To achieve this objective and accelerate innovation, corporate IT must reduce manageability costs, strengthen security, and improve productivity.

One way to achieve this difficult goal is through PCs with Intel® vProTM technology powerful, professional-grade capabilities that simplify management of desktop PCs. PCs with Intel vPro technology have what it takes to streamline operations due to manageability features built into the hardware.

Recently, EDS, a leading global technology services company, investigated the capabilities provided by Intel® vProTM technology. EDS concluded that these capabilities could significantly improve remote inventory, management, security, and update tasks. In particular, EDS noted that these capabilities extend to PCs that are powered-down or do not have management agents installed, or whose operating systems are not working.

Key capabilities
Intel vProTM technology provides key capabilities for improving IT operations:
  • Built-in manageability Now you can access PCs with Intel vPro technology in your business simply, securely, and quickly-even when PCs are powered down or their OS is inoperable. Intel vPro technology enables you to keep users working effectively while you run IT tasks such as updates, virus scans and real-time data feeds in the background. Accurately inventory hardware and software assets, remote boot, troubleshoot, repair and restore systems and significantly reduce the number of deskside visits and service center calls.
  • Proactive security Hardware-enhanced security is resistant to hackers, viruses and worms, and isolated from inadvertent tampering. Now you can stop more threats before they spread, protect critical information, ensure security software and other agents stay active, and enforce PC compliance with your corporate IT policies.
  • Energy-efficient performance PCs with Intel vPro technology provide superior Intel® CoreTM2 Duo processor performance for your computer-intensive applications, all in a power-efficient package that helps reduce PC noise in your office. Keep users working effectively while you run IT tasks such as updates, virus scan, and real-time data feeds in the background. Multi-tasking becomes a pleasure, not a chore.

With advantages of built-in manageability, proactive security, and energy-efficient dual-core performance, IT managers are free to focus on more strategic initiatives to accelerate business success.

EDS is now expecting to use the embedded capabilities built into these PCs with vProTM technology to achieve greater visibility into its customer's assets, from initial deployment through the life of their business agreements. This will help EDS streamline and automate more processes, improve service-level agreements, reduce manual inventories, and increase service offerings to customers. The example of EDS shows just what Intel vProTM technology can do for you.
